About CHRISTIAN DIOR Fragrances
Dior was born on January 21,
1905 in Granville, France. He
spent two years in the
military and then began his
design career. In 1947 he
launched his first collection,
?New Look?, celebrating
femininity. This was just the
beginning of a long and
successful career for Dior. He
also began the launch of his
first fragrance, Miss Dior.
Dior had always been
interested in fragrances and
said, ?I think of myself as a
designer of perfumes as well
as a designer of fashion. I
became a perfumer so that one
only has to open a bottle to
imagine all my dresses, and so
that each and every woman I
dress leaves behind her an
unforgettable aura.? Dior had
only one assistant at the
time, Yves Saint Laurent.
Sadly, Dior did not live to
see the growth and success of
his Design House. He passed
away at 52 from a heart
attack. Yves Saint Laurent
took over as artistic director
until he was called upon for
military service at which
point Marc Bohan succeeded him.
Over the years, Dior's Design
House has launched several
perfumes and fragrances. Some
of the most popular are Dune,
Dolce Vita and Hypnotic
Poison. Dune has been
extremely successful and won
the 1993 Fifi award for best
women's fragrance. It
introduced the oceanic note to
perfumes which helped to make
it one of Dior's top selling
perfumes. Dolce Vita is also
an extremely popular
fragrance, since its
introduction of ?floral fresh
spicy and soft woody? notes to
the perfume industry.
Dior continues to be a leader
in the perfume industry and
will no doubt find new ways to
create everlasting and classic
fragrances.
