Prada Brothers was established
in 1913 as a small leather
handbag company and was
originally founded by Mario
Prada in Milan, Italy. When
Mario's granddaughter,
Miuccia, inherited the
business in 1978, she
transformed the company into a
multi-million dollar enterprise.
Miuccia Prada has a special
interest for fabrics and
textures and their perfect
combination together. This
talent led to the current
fashion industry which she
practically developed on her
own. In 1985, she designed an
unlabeled, black, finely-woven
nylon handbag that soon became
the must-have for artists,
models and fashion stylists
all over the world. In 1989
she introduced women's wear
and in 1995 men's wear, making
her runway shows a must-see in
the fashion world.
Miuccia, married to Patrizio
Bertelli who is also her
business partner, owns two
clothing lines: Prada and Miu
Miu. Prada has intended to buy
other lines such as Helmut
Lang, Fendi, and Jil Sander.
Miuccia wants to be able to
compete internationally
against the handbag king
manufacturer, Louis Vuitton.
Prada has released two
signature fragrances: Prada
for women in 2004, and Prada
for men in 2006.
